Why did you choose to specialize in gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is a specialty I was originally drawn to in my pre-teens.  At the time, my aunt was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and I saw a need for educating individuals on the need for timely screening in order to prevent colon cancer development and the tragic consequences of the disease.  As a medical student, I enjoyed learning about the GI tract, the importance of each organ, and the pathophysiology of GI conditions.  In the clinical setting, I loved the unique ability in the specialty to be able to establish a relationship/rapport with my patients in the office setting and then having the ability to perform endoscopic procedures in order to guide diagnosis, prevent disease, and therapeutically address conditions in a swift manner.

What are your areas of special interest and expertise within gastroenterology?

I enjoy taking care of a wide array of gastrointestinal symptoms and diseases.  My clinical interests include general gastroenterology, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, motility, and women’s gastrointestinal health.

Do you have any special honors, recognition, or achievements in your medical career that you would like to share?

As a resident I was the recipient of the Department of Medicine Charles Uribe Award.  I did a visiting externship at Leiden Medical Center in the Netherlands to learn about personalized Inflammatory Bowel Disease care.  I received a grant as a fellow from the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility society to obtain additional training in gastrointestinal motility at Temple University Medical Center.

What do you and your family enjoy doing during your spare time?

I am a foodie, nature enthusiast, and enjoy exercising regularly, traveling, and learning about other cultures.
