Myth Busted: Elimination Diets Won’t “Cure” Gut Symptoms
Tamara Duker Freuman, a dietitian at New York Gastroenterology Associates, was recently featured in The New York Times to dispel common misconceptions about gut health.
Many patients believe cutting out foods like grains, dairy, and legumes can alleviate bloating or constipation. However, as Ms. Freuman explains, “There’s nothing inherently inflammatory about these foods.” Overly restrictive diets can actually harm your gut health by reducing beneficial plant-based variety and may even lead to nutrient deficiencies or disordered eating.
Instead, focus on nourishing your gut with diverse, fiber-rich foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes.
